with Danielle Putnam
In a brand-new episode of the podcast, Karalynn speaks with an estimate innovator, Danielle Putnam, about the growing popularity of menu pricing in the construction industry and its many advantages within the field. Through her application, The New Flat Rate, Danielle’s mission is to make moving to menu pricing as simple and accessible as possible for business owners. Estimates do not have to be a challenge, and Danielle’s philosophy regarding them is a testament to that fact. Together, she and Karalynn cover the great, growing trend of menu pricing and dive into why it may be worth considering!
Danielle’s history in the construction industry dates back to her childhood. In her youth, her father was a contractor, and she would often accompany him to job sites as a young girl. Even as a child, Danielle witnessed the prominent stigmas that went along with blue-collar work; That blue-collar workers were less intelligent, unsanitary, and generally less valuable than white-collar workers. Ever since, it has become her mission to elevate and normalize the perception of the trades. It is why she got into the trades in the first place, and why she continues to invest in her local and national construction communities.

In the modern-day construction climate, clients want options. Danielle explains that she is seeing more and more pushback from guys in the field when they are including every tiny detail, down to the nitty-gritty, in their bids. This causes some clients to try to nickel-and-dime them down from the number they receive and becomes a pain for both parties in the long run. Danielle’s solution is implementing tiered menu pricing options on every project. She suggests breaking down your projects into three options of varying prices and varying detail. Contractors utilizing the New Flat Rate’s system see little to no pushback at all when using this system; Clients simply choose the option they like best. The system she created is specifically designed to make it incredibly easy and user-friendly for clients viewing estimates, as well.
Danielle is truly an industry innovator, and her ideas regarding how to adapt and adjust within the industry are game-changing.
